A number of cases, dated about 1862, relate to the Confederate invasion and concern treason and libel and usually contain only the indictment. Included are the confiscation files resulting from property condemnation (libel) actions against Confederate sympathizers. These files contain the libel charge, seizure papers, witness testimonies to the supposed treasonous activity, petitions and newspapers containing the U.S. marshal's libel and auction notices.
